3 Fairytale Moments

Most of us grow up being read fairytales before bed. Princes escaping from the constraints of their parents, ugly ducklings turning into beautiful swans, and princesses being rescued by knights in shining armour. These stories are written just to be stories, but unfortunately they set many of us up for a lifetime of diluted expectation, where we believe that these great stories will happen to us. And while they usually don't, every now and then they do and they are magical.

Different moments will be considered magical by different people. Some fairytale moments include:

1. Your wedding day:

All around the world there are little boys and girls dreaming of their wedding day. They imagine the day that they will fall in love with the person that they want to spend the rest of their life with. The day that they get engaged and then of course their big wedding day. Tree trunks are wound with white Christmas lights, there are flowers everywhere, a beautiful sunset and friends and family all around. Best of all there is the man of their dreams waiting for them at the alter, or the woman of their dreams making her way down the aisle into their arms.

2. The big game:

For a professional athlete, a fairytale moment might be when you win the championship game. When you score the final goal, or hit the home run that will earn your team the point they need to win it. You've practiced all year and for many years before that. Rain or shine, you're out there with your team mates hustling through it. You've dealt with injuries, cut backs, losses and disappointments. But in that victorious moment, it all feels worth it. You've won, your hard work has paid off and the honour is all yours.

3. Above and beyond:

A fairytale moment might also be when you're doing something completely extraordinary, something you never thought you would do, or something you know you probably won't do again. It might be climbing to the top of Mt. Everest, it might be standing at the top of Iguassu Falls in Brazil and pounding your chest while you inhale the air of one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It might be telling the person you love, that you do in fact love them. Or it might be sailing across the open skies in a hot air balloon staring out at all of the world's most beautiful creations, and remembering for a brief moment, how precious life is.

What ever your fairytale is, I do hope that it comes true.
